The biggest mistake publishers make when generating self-help books is forcing the AI into strict, repetitive templates (for example, demanding that every chapter goes: Problem → Historical Example → 3 Action Steps → Conclusion). While this sounds good in theory, reading 12 chapters structured exactly the same way feels rigid. To avoid the "AI feel," you need to advocate for variance. Let the content dictate the flow. If you notice that PublishFlow is consistently starting or ending your chapters with the exact same format—such as beginning every chapter with "In the last chapter, we covered X. Now, let's explore Y."—you might be wondering how to stop it. Naturally, PublishFlow’s AI is trained to write dynamically and avoid repetitive phrasing. When the AI uses highly repetitive structures, it is almost always because it is strictly following a directive within your Book Requirement Document (BRD). While it can be frustrating to see the same pattern repeat, the good news is that this is a quick and easy fix! Here is how to resolve the issue.

Step 1: Check your BRD for overly broad instructions

The AI takes your instructions very literally. Sometimes, an instruction written with the intention of creating a good reading experience is interpreted by the AI as a strict structural template to be used in every single chapter. To check your settings, open the BRD Creator. From there, you will land on the Outline tab. Be sure to check this tab, as well as the Writer Instructions and Style and Tone tabs. Look for instructions that the AI might be misinterpreting. Here are a few examples of well-meaning instructions that can cause repetitive patterns:

How to Work Effectively with Our AI Assistants

Every major tool inside PublishFlow features an AI Assistant Chat that is always open on the right side of your screen. It is there to answer your questions and do heavy-lifting tasks for you.

What does the chat do?

You can communicate with the AI Assistant at any time. There are three main things it can do to help you write your book:

Answer your questions: You can ask it to rate your title, description, BRD, or chapter, and let it tell you how to optimize it even further. You can talk to it just like any other chatbot (like ChatGPT or similar).
Recommend changes: It can recommend specific changes to your text. You can read its recommendations first, give it feedback, and it will generate new recommendations based on what you said. You can do this back-and-forth until you completely like the suggestions.
Implement the changes: If you want it to apply its recommendations, simply tell it to do so. It will go ahead and rewrite your title, description, BRD, or chapter based on your feedback. Note on implementing: You always stay in control. To apply the rewrite, you must click the Implement changes button. Inside the Description and Writing tools, the new changes will even be highlighted directly in your text so you can see exactly what was altered.
