How to use the Inline Editing Tool

PublishFlow’s AI does an incredible job of generating your chapters based on your Book Requirement Document (BRD). However, sometimes a chapter is 95% perfect, but a specific word feels out of place, or a single sentence doesn't flow quite right.

Instead of regenerating the entire chapter and losing the parts you already love, you can use the Inline Editing Tool. This feature allows you to tweak, rewrite and perfect your manuscript with pinpoint accuracy directly on the page.

When to Use It

The Inline Editing Tool works at every step of the PublishFlow Writing Process: while you write chapter by chapter, after the Developmental Editing and after the final Proofreading. During writing, the best moment is right after a chapter is written and fact-checked: The content is final, so you can adjust the wording of the finished chapter before you move on to the next one.

1. Switch to the Editor

The Inline Editing Tool unlocks when you are in the Editor view. Use the Typography / Editor toggle and select Editor. You don't need to open separate menus or type out new prompts.

2. Click on a Word

Open any generated chapter.
Click directly on the word you want to work on. You do not need to select the whole sentence: The clicked word is highlighted and the sentence around it is marked as well.
A small menu pops up with two options: Replace word and Rephrase sentence.

3. Choose the Best Suggestion

Pick what you want to change:

Replace word suggests alternatives for just that word, for example synonyms that fit the tone better.
Rephrase sentence suggests rephrased versions of the whole sentence that improve the flow and readability.

4. Instant Replacement

Review the suggested alternatives. When you find the one that sounds perfect for your book, simply click on it.

The original word or sentence is instantly replaced with your chosen suggestion. There is no need to click an "Apply" button or manually delete the old text. The change happens seamlessly, allowing you to read through your manuscript and make rapid, high-quality edits on the fly.

Why This Is Better Than Regenerating

By editing inline, you maintain the overall structure, pacing and word count of the chapter that you established in your Writing Instructions, while still having complete creative control over the final wording. It is the fastest way to remove any lingering "AI feel" and make the manuscript truly your own.

Pro Tip: Also useful after the final Proofreading. Since the Proofreading only runs once per book, inline editing is your way to polish individual passages afterwards.
