# Translation Tool: Overview

# The Translation Tool: Your Book in New Languages
The Translation Tool translates your finished book into new languages, so it can sell in more Amazon markets. It keeps the structure and formatting of your book intact. It supports English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, and you can translate from any of these languages into any other. A German book can become English just as an English book can become German.

### How a Translation Works
PublishFlow does not simply translate your book in one go. It calibrates first:

1. **A sample chapter comes first.** PublishFlow translates the first chapter and shows you the result.
2. **You approve the voice and terminology.** In the calibration workspace (see below) you review the sample, the glossary and the translator notes. You can adjust and re-run the sample until it fits.
3. **The full book follows.** The finished translation appears under **My Translations**.

| Pro Tip: The chapter breakdown is locked in when the translation starts. If you want a different structure later, you create a new translation project.

### Setting Up a Translation
Click **+ New Translation**. Two steps follow:

###### 1. Choose Your Plan
The Translation Tool is included in the Base and Pro plans. Translate into **one language** or into **all 4 other languages** at once. If you have never translated a book with PublishFlow, your first translation is included. After that, one language costs 1 Book Credit and all 4 languages at once cost 2 Book Credits. Nothing is charged until you confirm.

###### 2. Set Up Your Translation
* **Written in:** The source language of your book.
* **Translate into:** Any language PublishFlow supports: English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
* **Address form:** For every target language except English you choose how readers are addressed: **Du/Sie** (German), **Tu/Vous** (French), **Tú/Usted** (Spanish) or **Tu/Lei** (Italian). The first option reads direct and conversational, the second formal and measured.
* **Translator hints (Advanced options):** Free-text guidance the translator keeps in mind, one hint per line. For example: "Keep brand names in English" or "Use imperial units for cooking measures".
* **Pick a book:** Choose a book from your library (**PublishFlow Book**) or upload an external manuscript (**External DOCX**). Books in unsupported source languages stay locked for now.

Then click **Start Translation** and confirm with **Yes, start translation**. The sample chapter starts translating.

### The Calibration: Sample, Glossary and Notes
While your translation is being calibrated, your book shows a **Glossary** tool in the left sidebar with three tabs:

* **Sample translation:** A side-by-side preview of one chapter, source and translation paragraph by paragraph. Use it to judge tone, voice and quality and to catch anything that should change.
* **Glossary proposals:** The recurring terms of your book with their chosen translations and the reasoning behind each choice. Pick between the suggested options, edit any cell inline, add or remove terms.
* **Translator notes:** Translation decisions that stay consistent across the whole book, tagged by type (tone, idiom, terminology, cultural). Edit them inline or add your own.

The **Glossary Assistant** on the right helps you review: **Audit register & consistency**, **Validate address form**, **Find redundant terms** or ask anything in the chat. You can also re-run the whole sample translation.

When everything fits, click **Approved**: The full book is translated with your approved glossary and notes.

### Frequently Asked Questions
**Which languages are supported?**
English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. You can translate from any of these into any other.

**Can I translate a book that was not written in PublishFlow?**
Yes. Choose **External DOCX** when picking the book and upload your manuscript.

**Can I translate only one chapter?**
No. The Translation Tool always translates the entire manuscript. The sample chapter is a preview for the calibration only and cannot be translated separately from the rest of the book.

**Formal or informal address for my translation?**
The informal form (Du, Tu, Tú) reads direct and conversational, the formal form (Sie, Vous, Usted, Lei) measured and professional. Think about how your readers expect to be addressed; you see the effect in the sample chapter and can change course before the full book is translated.

**I want a different chapter structure for the translation.**
The structure is locked per translation project. Create a new translation project to use a different structure.
